Where yachting & food collide…from The Captain’s Concierge
You probably use your iPhone for phone calls and Facebooking. Take some time to check out all the other tasks you iPhone/iTouch can help you with. Apps are changing the way technology is used onboard. Last week we highlighted the ways chefs can use cooking apps with these posts Toss Your Cookbooks Overboard and Apps to Make Life Easier in the Galley.
While there isn’t an app that will do your ironing, there are several to assist with other tasks:
Wine Guide: reviews and ratings from Wine Enthusiast magazine includes photos of bottle with label. Great search feature with many parameters. Also rates vintages. Some information is available off-line.
Cellar: create a virtual wine cellar for the wines stowed onboard. This a blank database app that you fill-up. Can be used to keep track of stocks and favorites. Photos of bottle & label can be storedwith entrees. Works off-line
8,500 drink & Cocktail Recipes: Never be stumped again when a guest asks for a cocktail. It has ingredients and recipes for almost everything. It does not give recommendations for glass type. Free & works off-line.
Stainpedia: moving boat + fine fabrics + guests on vacation = recipe for stains. This guide shows what to do immediately to prvent the stain from setting and then how to clean it. It does not discriminate on fabric type so test solutions in a discreet area. Free & works off-line.
While not as much fun as some apps, these can help you cater to your guest’s needs with greater efficiency which might give you more time for Facebook.
